Chewacla State Park in central Alabama is home to over 30 miles of mountain biking trails and is suitable for all levels of riders. From cruisy flow to epic dirt jumps spending a day or two here is a must.
Sitting just outside of Auburn the area claims to be the last foothill of the mighty Appalachians. The park sits on a large lake and is a great way to cool off after a ride.
The park is home to a campground, skills park, jump park, a good assortment of trails ranging from beginner to advanced.

Mileage: 30+ miles of purpose-built mountain biking trails, dirt jump park, and freeride area.
Difficulty: Beginner to advanced trails
Hours: 8am till dark. $4 fee for parking within park or you can park at the lot just outside main entrance for free. Camping is available within the park as well.

CHEWACLA STATE PARK CAMPING
Chewacla’s campground has 36 developed sites ranging in price from $25-$50 and nine primitive sites for $25. The park also has six cabins for rent that range from $100-$170 most of which are lakefront.

MOUNTAIN BIKING CHEWACLA STATE PARK
The trails are divided into two distinct areas, the Lower and Upper Chewacla State Park. The Lower trails feature traditional hand-built cross-country trails ranging from beginner to advanced.
The Upper Chawacla trails are home to more modern flow trails, free ride, and man-made trail features. But not to worry if you’re just a beginner because this area has plenty of mellow singletrack as well.
We started our day out by linking up about 20 miles worth of intermediate trails. This gave us a good overview of the area and we loved every mile of it. It’s easy to piece together trails for a longer ride and for the most part they all ride great in either direction(except of course the one-way trails).
The forest was lush and well shaded from the hot sun. We stumbled upon the jump park near the campground which looked great but unfortunately was too wet to ride.
From here we worked our way toward the Forbidden Zone Freeride trail and it did not disappoint. Really fun and well-built trail with some legit features that are sure to please those seeking a bit of air time.
We even stumbled upon a dual slalom course that begged for a few laps. The trails have all been really well maintained and quite frankly buffed to perfection. Chewacla State Park really does have everything a mountain biker could possibly want.
CHEWACLA MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS FINAL VERDICT
This was another Alabama mountain biking area that surprised us with some great riding. It truly has something for every type of rider and skill level.
The beginner and kid-friendly CAMP trail where you can ride some beginner wooden features is a great introduction to riding.
Piecing together intermediate trails will keep the cross-country rider happy and entertained with just the right amount of challenging terrain.
For those wanting to go big don’t miss the Forbidden Zone or the jump park where you can put your skills to good use.
And if you want some natural feature Black Diamond riding there’s plenty of that as well. Steep and rocky technical riding that will test your riding skills on the up and down.
So for us Chewacla State Park mountain biking gets two thumbs up and is definitely worth a visit.
