In the foothills of the Appalachians sits the 10,000 acre Oak Mountain State Park. Located just 20 minutes south of Birmingham in Pelham, Alabama this IMBA Epic Rides Hall of Fame destination should not be missed.
Thanks to the dedication and countless volunteer hours by BUMP(Bermingham Urban Mountain Pedalers) Oak Mountain State Park is home to over 37 miles of maintained single track mountain bike trails.
The valleys and ridgelines serve up miles of epic singletrack that offer tremendous technical diversity. We were pleasantly surprised by the rocky and technical riding that tested our skills and bike handling abilities.
The area has well-marked bike trails for all abilities so come check it out.

Oak Mountain State Park IMBA Epic Trail
The singletrack trails here offer just about every trail condition imaginable. Anything from tight and twisty, smooth and fast, to technical rock gardens and rooty descents.
The EPIC designated Red Trail at around 22 miles has a mix of everything listed above. The loop with about 1600 feet of climbing features all of the trails that are red on this map.
To ride this epic save a PDF copy of the map and then use TrailForks to help with what direction to ride the various areas in. It’s a definite choose your own adventure kind of ride with plenty of opportunities to cut things short or go longer.
Aside from some techy walk-a-bike sections, this trail is great for intermediate riders. And if needed you could always leave out some of the black diamond trails identified on TrailForks.
For a wide and mellow beginner trail try the Lake trail that goes around Double Oak Lake.

Oak Mountain Bike Trails Are They Worth A Visit?
We were pleasantly surprised by Oak Mountain State Park. They have done a great job of offering up a variety of trails to suit any rider.
If fast berms and jumps are your thing be sure to hit Lightning. It’s a rollercoaster of ups and downs with massive berms and features along the way. We must of rode that trail 4 times before moving on.
Jekyll and Hyde are a classic technical ride that will test your bike handling skills yet reward you with some gorgeous scenery
For a chill but absolutely beautiful trail be sure to hit the Lake Trail around Double Oak Lake.
