Slow Cooker Camping Potatoes Au Gratin
Potatoes Au Gratin is an excellent option for camping due to its simple ingredients, easy preparation, and versatility. Ingredients
- 2 Pounds Russet Potatoes (Peeled, Rinsed And Sliced Into About 1/6th Inch Slices)
- 2 Cups Shredded Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 1 ¼ Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 3 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
- 2 Teaspoons Minced Fresh Rosemary
- Salt & Pepper (To Taste)
- Butter (For Buttering The Slow Cooker)
Instructions
Butter a 3.5 quart casserole slow cooker OR a 6 quart or larger slow cooker with the butter and set aside.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Drizzle potatoes with half of the cream, rosemary and garlic and sprinkle with a bit of salt and pepper. Add half the cheese on top.
Create another layer of potatoes, drizzle with cream, rosemary, garlic & salt and pepper and top with cheese.
Cover slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours or until the potatoes are “fork tender” and the cheese is melted and everything is bubbly.

This is my second time making this. The only thing I added the first time was a whole cup of grated Parmesan cheese and the flavor turned out great. Unfortunately, the potatoes didn’t get soft, even after 8 hours in the crock pot.
So this time I boiled the potatoes first and wouldn’t you know, now they’re too soft. I also put in waaaay too many potatoes, so added extra cream, extra cheese, and a jar of Alfredo sauce (I had no more cream). Naturally, I had also chopped about 3 cups of ham to add to this. My poor little crock pot is overflowing, so we’ll see how this goes. I have the feeling I’m going to be eating Camp Potatoes and Ham soup. At least it should be as delicious as the first time. Maybe next time I can get this right.
